Alex 'Rocko' Rupert
My paintings act as investigations of form through flatness and explore the implication of color through relative colorlessness. My practice stems from a love of the raw degenerative nature of street art and the sleek refined and obsessive character of design which comes boldly across in my process. With a political intention and love of nature in mind, I paint pictures with the same openness to interpretation and passion I see in the murals all around me, from San Franciscos Mission to Bushwick, to the color bombed streets of Mexico City where I met my lovely woman. I love seeing the artists around me rein in these turbulent times and turn their frustration into beauty and reason with an actual purpose, fulfilling the meaning of design and what it means to be a person who exists in the muddy waters of 2018.
